The full text of the following document was published in JOMO, the magazine of the Pan-African Congress Movement, in the UK in June 1990. A drastically edited version was also published in The Voice in March 1990.

During the two and a half weeks I spent trapped in that hospital, I watched a lot of TV, which didn't help my brain cells much, but I was amazed at the amount of coverage the events unfolding in Eastern Europe were getting. Every news bulletin, every in-depth analysis, every politician, every "expert" was saying more or less the same thing: "Democracy, democracy, democracy, democracy..." ad-nauseum.

Democracy? Are all those behind-the-scenes machinations and manoeuvrings democracy? Is replacing one bunch of un-elected unrepresentative government officials with another bunch of equally unrepresentative and un-elected government officials really "democracy"? In that case they can keep it.

The ease with which this Big Con game they call democracy is being played on the world's population never ceases to amaze me. It's success is based on one of the maxims most dear to the hearts of politicians: "You can fool most of the people most of the time"

The day after my release from hospital I was watching yet another live "in-depth" news analysis on cable TV (which is just as bad as the Big Three except that you pay to be insulted), when to my great surprise I heard something extraordinary. Out of the forest to lies and misinformation crawled a whimper of truth from the mouth of one of those nameless pentagon bureaucrats: "...It is part of the process towards the realisation of the European Home Concept," he said "they" did not subscribe to the idea of spontaneous democratitis. When asked what he meant by the "European Home Concept" he went on to say that it is the concept of the unification of all Europeans (white people with European ancestry) and the consolidation of European power on a global basis as a single nation.

Of course the interviewer did not ask what was the purpose or the objective of this consolidation of European power. The nameless face just disappeared and they carried on with their nonsense as before.

Here I was in the USA trying to raise a few million dollars to make a film and part of the film was unfolding in front of my very eyes. I had just finished talking to someone about the project, [Black Light] which is a musical fantasy about the history of the (Global) African (Black) nation condensed into a single lifetime of allegorical experiences. It also shows what happens when the (Global) Europeans come together.

As I lay on my hospital bed watching the relentless movement of the Europeans toward global unification, I reflected on the events surrounding my emergency operation.

Upon arrival at the hotel, the Student Affairs Co-ordinator, Mrs. Napper, telephoned to welcome us and asked if I would be willing to do a performance the following night as part of the cultural evening. My actual engagement was to be the keynote speaker at the banquet which was still two days away, but I was there, I had my guitar with me, so I agreed. This was the 14th Annual Presidential Banquet of the Florida African-American Students Association, taking place at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. I saw it as a good opportunity to expose my musical self to the whole of Florida via their student union representatives.

The cultural evening turned out to be the usual mixture of religious songs, a couple of dance routines a stirring motivational, speech on how to succeed in the rat race and realise the great American dream and a funny sketch.

I talked a bit about freedom as being the right of every entity to determine what happens to it, and then sang "Freedom First" with full audience participation. They didn't seem to mind hearing that the Great American dream based on greed and violence is contradictory to the welfare of the African nation, so "Woza Malcolm" seemed most appropriate.

Half way through "Africa I See", having spoken liberation and love, they pulled the curtain on me. I had not even done fifteen of my allotted thirty minute spot. In a state of shock I blasted the organisers for not being able to accept the truth. Even though the theme of their conference was "In Search of Self" they were afraid to look in the mirror.

I had no explanation from the organisers as to why they pulled the plug on me, but plenty of apologies from students from the audience. The following day I was excluded from all the workshops.

When finally we were picked up from the hotel by Mrs Napper in her own car, she said the committee had had an emergency meeting the previous evening to decide whether I should be allowed to speak at the banquet. Their difficulty was that I was the keynote speaker and I was there. They threw the ball in my court: the choice was: cut my presentation time in half or not speak at all. Mrs Napper had gone through hell and high water to bring me there to speak so she was very upset by the whole affair.

After my speech people wanted to do interviews but the "star" of the show was not feeling too well so a lift was accepted back to the hotel where the interviews could be conducted in comfort.

The press saw how the students hungrily swallowed every morsel of information that was squeezed into that short half hour speech and wanted to hear more. More about 12,000 years of African history. More about the genocidal wars being waged against black people. More about the traitors within who are worse than the visible enemy. They wanted to ask questions about the similarity of experiences of Africans (black people with African ancestry) all over the world. They were particularly interested in the idea that African unity must be based on the singular objective of total and absolute liberation.

So what would European unity be based on? I asked myself. Judging from their history it can't be based on love; and since they are essentially the oppressors it can't be based on liberation. From my supine position I could only see one word: Fear! Abject terror-stricken fear. Fear of having the tables of power turned on them. Fear of their total annihilation at the hands of the world's ethnic majorities. Fear of dying by the sword of vengeance after living by the whip of oppression for so long.

They know that when compared with the number of people they control and exploit, either directly or indirectly, they are a very small minority on this earth. They know also that as the Global Village becomes smaller and communication between oppressed peoples become easier, the oppressed will begin to compare notes and realise that they have one common enemy, Global Europe, masquerading as friend under the guise of an East/West ideological divide.

It is this fear based on their awareness that the "wind of change" is threatening to blow their castle down which has caused the European supremacist power structure to abandon the facade of East v West, Communists v Capitalists, Democracy v Despotism.

Very soon all Europeans will have "democracy". That highly profitable export commodity which, as a single, powerful Global European nation, they hope to force the rest of the world to buy at any price.

Even though the Democrats v Communists game is still reasonably profitable there was always the threat of peace breaking out when too many people got wise. What would happen to their economies then? Exactly what has been happening, depression. Good business sense told them that if they pooled their resources and diversified they would be able to prolong and possibly even increase their global power.

The Global Europe architects have so far defused the emergence of an oil-fired Arab nationalism, compromised the seemingly unwitting Japanese into their club, and high jacked the intelligentsia of South Western Asia. While their latest attempts to neutralise the sleeping giant, China, have failed, their seeds of disaster have been bearing fruits all over Africa.

European power is based on Christianity. The Christian church is the mental, emotional, ideological, psychological and political foundation upon which European power was accumulated and to a lesser but still significant extent is perpetuated. Therefore there can be no united Europe or single European home until all European leaders recognise and accept the authority, even if it is just symbolically, of the Christian church. That is why Gorbachev and his atheistic "evil empire" had to be seen to be seeking and receiving the blessings and support of the pope in Rome.

The revival of media interest in the pope and his interest in the so-called Third World is basically an investment in the future. To buy out or neutralise all those millions of black Christians who, when faced with the crisis, would then feel duty bound to defend the interest of their white god.

In the next decade, because of the way religion will be used in global relations, it will become clearer that being a good Christian and a revolutionary African is incompatible and contradictory.

Unless there is a massive conversion to a political, cultural and spiritual African Consciousness or a great awakening of those millions of Stolen hearts, they would have to be counted as "missing in action".

The Glasnost / Perestroika declarations of Gorbachev and his gang sent visible shock waves through the world's Socialist leaning nations and organisations. They were in a quandary. They are mostly confused and angry about being dumped so unceremoniously by their ideological patron. Of course the more pragmatic or opportunistic have simply swallowed and followed the line of Moscow, shamelessly praising every move every gesture of Gorbachev in the name of glasnost and Perestroika.

Similarly their relative counterparts in the Capitalist camp freely quote Bush and Thatcher in their expressions of undying love, admiration and support for their friend Gorby and his bold moves towards democracy.

And where does that leave the dogmatic die-hard Marxist Socialist? The White ones will simply be silenced or eliminated. The Black ones need not worry more than they have had to in the past. As before, they will continue to be supplied with not quite enough material aid, while their Capitalist counterparts will continue to receive just enough to keep them in check until the final showdown.

The neutralisation of the Eastern European communist elements was still front page news when word came to the hospital that Mrs. Napper's car had been vandalised - sabotaged - the night of the banquet. Being in hospital was a bit of an inconvenience but the mysterious circumstances surrounding it now took on a more serious, and sinister appearance. Nails in front tyres and brakes tampered with isn't very funny. It's even less of a joke when you realise that you were supposed to be in that car with both your eldest daughter and your youngest son.

You stop to look again. You ask what the hell is going on? The spontaneous standing ovation from the students did not indicate that they were dissatisfied or displeased with the message they heard. Their eagerness to make the international connection, to get more information about their Brothers and Sisters in Europe and other parts of the world, reflected the general mood of young Africans throughout the USA both on and off campus. They know that something is wrong because they feel and experience it every day. They know also, that they must do something about it. The knowledge that they are not alone, that their feelings and experiences are universal and that their desire and their willingness to do something about it is also universal gives them strength. It empowers then.

Young Africans are not willing to compromise. They are angry. They are militant. All they need is a little more information and a dash of inspiration.

Anyone who can inform and inspire the African youth is seen as a threat to the status quo. Any person, Black or White, who believes that they have a vested interest in the preservation of the status quo must necessarily see such teachers as the enemy.

Was there a connection between the premature curtain, the truncation of the keynote speech, the exclusion from the workshops, the vandalisation of the vehicle and the hospitalisation of the speaker?

Such a question, serious as it may be, appeared less important as the arguments over German reunification raged in the headlines. Even the so-called Black media seemed more preoccupied with the issue than any news of events in Africa or the Caribbean.

Should, would, could Germany be reunited as one country? That is not a question that needs debate. The unification of Germany is an essential and inevitable step towards the realisation of the Single Europe Concept, as Bush calls it.

As a divided Germany was the key flash point in emphasising the supposed divisions between East and West, so a unified Germany is the psychological key to a unified Europe. Any person who stands in the way of German unity, even Mrs Thatcher, will simply be swept aside and replaced with someone more accommodating - unless of course they are able to capitulate and follow orders. The recent "challenge" to her leadership of her party was merely a slap on the wrist gesture. Whether the Iron Lady is for bending we will soon see. Fortunately(?) for her, parliamentary democracy allows for the removal of stubborn leaders, even prime ministers, without the need to resort to physical liquidation as they so often do on the other side of the ocean.

The night I was taken to the hospital I mentioned to my friend that the bellyache I was having felt exactly like the one I had about half an hour after drinking some strange tasting iced tea at the banquet. I thought it would be a nice joke to say that they didn't want me to speak so they gave me bad tea, but as the bellyache passed I thought they wouldn't appreciate such humour.

Humour or not I ended up in Germantown hospital Philadelphia where I underwent emergency abdominal surgery to free my blocked bowel. The doctors were baffled as to the cause of the tangled-up intestines and adhesions.

The fact that my appendix was perfectly healthy didn't stop them chopping it out. It seems they get a thrill out of removing healthy organs. If I didn't have an appendix who knows what they would have "found"?

I don't wish to be seen as a messenger of doom, gloom and despair by I'm afraid I cannot celebrate the advent of a European Union. We have seen already in the past two or three decades that every move they make towards co-operation and closer links brings with it greater repressive laws against non-European workers and residents. The result is more racial conflicts and more blatant abuse of human rights in legislations and social institutions.

In the four decades since the end of the so-called Second World War, when the victorious Allied leaders uttered those fateful words "Never again", historians and politicians alike have sang about the establishment of peace and stability in the world. Beyond the so-called "Cold War" (which was itself part of a European conspiracy to fool the rest of the world), they point to the "nuclear deterrent" (or was it detergent?). They say that is why "we" have been at peace for so long. Beyond the cold war they can now openly say Russia and the Baltic states are part of Europe. They can talk about the continuation of peace and a more secure and prosperous future for "that Europe on both sides of the Atlantic" as M. Thatcher puts it.

What is this peace they talk about? While the Europeans have been celebrating "peace in our time", the Third World War has been raging all around them. At one time there were over one hundred real wars in progress, fuelled by arms, ammunition, "advice" and agitation from both sides of the Iron Curtain.

In fact more explosive power has been used up in the past forty five years than in all the wars in the history of the world put together, including the 1st and 2nd "World Wars" and the megatons of nuclear power dropped on Japan, a non European nation. More people have died as a result of these wars than the total deaths of the 1st and 2nd "World Wars" .

Ironically the same people who are busy tracking down and prosecuting war criminals for the wartime killing of a few Jews are themselves committing the most horrendous crimes against humanity. How could such crimes being perpetrated in Palestine and Azania (South Africa) be tolerated in this time? How can forced sterilisation and vasectomy of Black people as practised for example, in the USA and India be tolerated in this time? How can the dumping of poisons and other dangerous drugs in Africa and the "Third World" be tolerated? How can these actions be anything but war crimes in this time, this so-called "peace" time?

No. When they said "Never again" they didn't mean no more wars. They meant, obviously, no more wars between Europeans. They meant "let other people die instead". And a lot of other people have been dying since then - with their help.

I'm afraid this Single European Home concept, Global Europe, can only mean disaster for the world. The next decade towards the year 2000 will see an irreversible trend toward greater polarisation of the world's peoples on a racial level. This racial polarisation will be exacerbated by the increasing accentuation of religious, economic, cultural and ideological differences leading to a global confrontation which no one can win.

The song about democracy in Eastern Europe will play and play and play ...

In the meantime the Tory party will get a new leader and East and West Germany will enter the European Community Free Market in 1992 as a single nation.

The USSR will be officially dismantled. Russia and all countries west of Russia will become part of a Greater Europe. Russia will retain neo-colonial control over the mineral-rich Eastern sector of the former USSR.

The Warsaw Pact and Nato Will be disbanded, to be replaced by a (European) World Security Police force (WSP). This WSP formed by the world's nuclear powered countries, (excluding China), is ostensibly to prevent "terrorists" from acquiring or producing nuclear Weapons.

Japan is forced to resign from the economic summit and seeks closer relations with Africa and the "Third World" after being squeezed out of Global Europe markets.

The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) falls apart but regroups with a smaller, stronger, more militant membership. They talk about Global Africa and make plans for a single union of African states.

A multiracial ANC 'wins' election in South Africa (Azania). WSP takes over to "protect democracy" after nationalist uprisings.

Black militant activists die of mysterious sudden illnesses. The Global Africa idea gains momentum under attack.

There will be mass expulsions from Greater Europe of non Europeans with criminal records mental or physical illness, "radical" political views and non-Christian, non-Jewish backgrounds.

Israel becomes a member of Europe (officially).

Christians and Jews in open bloody conflict with Moslems, after Jewish media manipulation of something a Muslim leader may or may not have said in reaction to something the Pope or some other Christian leader may or may not have said.

There's talk of a Central European Office being set up not in Europe but in Texas, USA.

China refuses to abide by rules of Nuclear Power Club. The decade ends with a massive mobilisation of WSP forces preparing to go and "deal" with China.
