UNITED KINGDOM PAN AFRlCAN CONGRESS 1998

MINUTES OF ORGANISING COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON 17TH NOVEMBER 1997 AND 30TH NOVEMBER 1997

1. Apologies were received: 2

2. In attendence: 11

3. The Organising Committee agreed that all its meetings would be audio taped and possibly video taped so that future generations could study how decisions of the Committee were arrived at.

4. The Convenor's report was noted.

5. A verbal report on the 7th Pan-African Congress held in Kampala in 1994 was given by someone who was present. This was noted.

6.1. A paper on Structures, Processes and Methods was presented. A proposal 'THAT THE UK PAC 98 BE HELD UNDER THE BANNER OF THE AFRICAN UNITED ACTION FRONT WAS MADE.

6.2. It was agreed that this be put on the agenda for the next meeting .

6.3 Discussions wers adjourned to receive a delegation from the Nation of Islam. The delegation comprised of a senior international representative from the USA and two others. They spoke in support of the 2000 PAC, warned against egotism and those who sought only to control, and said that the Nation of Islam would want to be involved. He also reported on a fundraising exercise to establish the Kwame Nkrumah Pan African Cultural Centre on the banks of the Nile in Cairo, Egypt. This will be established in a house given to Kwame Nkrumah by Gamal Abdul Nasser.

7.1.  The meeting was adjourned at this point and was reconvened on Sunday 30th November 1997.

8.1. t was agreed that tne purposes of the Organising Committee are

8. 2. it was agreed that each member of tne Organising Committee has a Vote; that decisions will be made on a simple majority basis of one member one vote.

8.3 Work to be done was identitied as logistics/operations, finance and fundraising and communications and information. It was agreed that this be placed on the agenda for the next meeting and that if it was felt necessary officers be elected to take responsibility for the carrying out of those tasks.

8.4. it was agreed that THE CALL TO THE GLOBAL PAN AFRICAN CONGRESS IN SEPTEMBER 2000 will be drafted.

9. items to be discussed at the next meeting are as given in the agenda. It was agreed to hold the next meetng at the same time 21st December 1997.
