African group "Insulted" by Book Cover
The African United Action Front (AUAF), a self-styled umbrella organisation within the Black community has launched a vicious, concerted campaign against a book whose cover they say desecrates their sacred symbols and "insults African People especially African Women".
The book in question is the controversial Naked Truth debut novel by ex-Osibisa founder and community activist, Spartacus R. entitled: "The Maãt Mystery: in Search of the Missing Link", officially published next month by Sukisa Publications.
The widely circulated AUAF statement reads: "The cover uses a half-naked African woman in a sexually explicit pornographic way to sell a book. This image goes further to trash our traditional outlook and the symbol of the Ankh with the background colours of Black, Red and Green that Garvey gave us as our international flag."
The AUAF who cite Spartacus' book as one of their reasons for their last-minute pull out of the recent UK Pan-African Congress in Celebration of Marcus Garvey's 111th Birthday, asks: "Have we as African people sunk to the level of having no principles, standards or morality? We in the AUAF say NO. We have principles, we have morality and we will defend them especially on Garvey's birthday."
"We take some very serious objection to the cover of the book because we see it as a desecration to our sacred symbols" said their representative spokesman, Nii Pepukayi, not quite brandishing his copy.
The AUAF have up to now made no comment about the content of the book which is currently available in Foyles, Waterstones, Compendium, Yemanja, Headstart, Index, and most Black book shops around the country.
